Prestasi yang pernah dicapai adalah perlombaan 1st Place of Tattoo Festival in 2008 at Java. Dan katanya tattoo yang dibuat oleh Abenk dijamin bukan proses replikasi karena tattoo yang dibuat Abenk selalu merupakan inspirasi. Wow kalau begitu dijamin tattoo Abenk pasti tidak ada kembarannya.

This week I’ve had a good lesson in making goals. On the whole I’m absolutely terrible at achieving goals. I get by with looking to those who don’t know me that I’m actually okay at making goals because of two workarounds: I have lots of goals, I work really hard and I work all the time.
Working really hard and working all the time are good in small doses. But in the long run, it’s really really bad for you. It’s been really really bad for me. I can’t tell you how bad. In fact it’s the thing I hate about myself the most.
The smart thing to to, that I haven’t figured out how to do yet is to alternate work, rest and discerning between important and not important goals.
The root of my problem has been irrational fear, not being realistic about what I can and can’t do and being too simplistic in my approach to goals of different types.
Too simplistic? I read a nice idea about stuff that can’t fail, and it opened my eyes to a paradox. Some goals become much harder to achieve if you can’t afford to fail. Usually, you actually can afford to fail and in fact must allow yourself to fail many times if you’re going to manage it. It just feels like you can’t because of inner or social pressure.
A lot of climbing falls under this category. There’s the simple idea I explained in my book about how being afraid to fail, or fall in climbing cripples it utterly in most situations. I really took this to heart years ago in my climbing. If you watched E11 you’ll see that I really learned on that route that it didn’t matter that I wasn’t up to the job of climbing E11. I failed again and got closer to the level, one step at a time in a relentless push right to the end.
Great. But I learned the hard way that the same approach to other tasks doesn’t work. Sometimes you really can’t afford to fail, you don’t get another try. Different approach needed. Trouble for me is that I got really in the habit of not worrying about failing, having mountains of goals and not worrying if I fail on most but succeed on some in the process. So it’s an uphill struggle to adjust.
Irrational fear? Like most folk, I have stupid fears and waste a large amount of time and energy acting them out. Stupid, stupid, stupid! Hard to ignore all the same.
Not being realistic is a simple one - I just have an appetite bigger than my belly.
Good to have learned more about these things, hard to put into practice. But a few days of starting and I feel a little better.
Polari - the slang used by a subculture of gay men for much of the twentieth century - is the focus of a really excellent article by top linguist and author, Paul Baker.
The A2 textbook mentions both Polari and Baker's work on this slang variety, but there's more good stuff to have a look at here, including the ways in which the slang evolved in different ways through its widespread but unstandardised usage. Baker also makes the point that the conditions that gave rise to Polari - draconian legislation against gay people, disapproving public attitudes and widespread prejudice and violence (just like Uganda, Zimbabwe and several other African states these days) - no longer exist in the same way in this country these days. And while that's got to be something to celebrate, the language (or anti-language) spawned by the repressive social climate is now nearly extinct, which is sad.
This is just a quick plug for a course we're putting on at UCL for teachers of English (primarily...others would be welcome too). It's called the Glamour of Grammar and it's all about grammar, obviously.
Grammar is seen by some as a set of dreary rules, by others as hoops to jump through on the way to assessing pupils’ progress in English and by many others as something that is joyless and difficult. We hope to show you that while describing it as “glamorous” might be pushing it a bit, grammar can open up different ways of thinking about language, give you new approaches to teaching and equip your students with analytical and problem-solving tools that can help in all sorts of ways.

Instant Messaging is on the wane, if this article in the BBC News magazine is anything to by. Apparently, sitting at a computer screen using MSN and the like has been ditched, with a move towards social networking via Facebook and Twitter and messaging via the the phone.
The article is a good read if you're revising for ENGA1 this week (and you blinking well should be) as it will remind you of some of the key aspects of language and mode: synchronous vs. asynchronous communication, formality, distance and one to one conversations vs social networking conversations that go out to many more conversational participants.
With V13 fitness finally regained after the endless winter of snowy mountaineering, I was obviously keen to get back to me project on Orkney - freeing the original line of the Longhope Route. But winter, in the northern end of the UK at least, wasn’t giving in just yet.
But we went anyway. It was kind of as bad as we expected, but worth going anyway. Donald and I spent a couple of days on the wall, one dangling about on the top and one on the bottom pitches. A lot of shivering was done, and trying to climb an F8c pitch in full winter mountaineering clothing didn’t fully work out. So we bailed without a great deal of deliberation.
Nevertheless I learned some more things about the route, namely that I need more time on it and it’s going to be damn hard. And visiting Orkney is always a pleasure. It was good to see that Donald found the lower pitches as adventurous as I think they are. I did almost have a nasty fall when a block I was holding onto parted company with the wall while a loooong way above a runner. A missed heartbeat to say the least.
The appetite is well and truly stoked for a proper encounter when the ocean warms up to something less than arctic.
On the way back south from Thurso I stopped off at some conglomerate bouldering not far south of Golspie with Donald that Cubby told me about. We spent a nice couple of hours climbing here. Worth knowing about. They are at The Mound, Loch Fleet (NH 766 978) with two separate walls, both about a minutes walk from the car and from each other through the trees.

The changes in the airline industry and the way recommendations flow is meaning that more people are going to the places you’ve not heard of before, not just the famous spots.
When I saw this I immediately thought of climbing. I’ve always had a strange relationship to travelling to climbing destinations. Although, the famous spots around the world are such because they are (on the surface at least) good, I find that I don’t always have the best time there.
Sometimes the good climbing is offset by too many people, crap logistics, unfriendly people, bad food etc etc..
There is good climbing in soooo many places all over the planet. Folk ask me a lot why I don’t travel abroad more to climb. I sort of understand why they ask because people generally are still fairly conditioned to think about the famous places and imagine that if they haven't heard of somewhere it’s cant be good.
Lot’s of people haven’t heard of most of the crags I climb on, so they wouldn’t at first realise that just because I live in one of the ‘everywhere else’ places it doesn’t mean I don’t have just as good climbing nearby.
In 17 years I’ve never once felt bored or short of new things to go and climb within three hours drive of my house. What more could you ask for?

Jaringan nirkabel atau yang sering disebut dengan wireless network cukup mudah untuk di set up, dan juga terasa sangat nyaman, terutama jika kita menginginkan agar bisa berjalan jalan keliling rumah atau kantor dengan komputer portable tetapi tetap bisa tetap mengakses jaringan internet. Namun, karena wireless menggunakan gelombang, maka akan lebih mudah untuk di-hack daripada koneksi yang menggunakan kabel. Ada beberapa tips disini untuk mengamankan wireless network.

Adapun langkah langkahnya sebagai berikut
1. Memakai enkripsi. Enkripsi adalah ukuran security yang pertama, tetapi banyak wireless access points (WAPs) tidak menggunakan enkripsi sebagai defaultnya. Meskipun banyak WAP telah memiliki Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) protocol, tetapi secara default tidak diaktifkan. WEP memang mempunyai beberapa lubang di securitynya, dan seorang hacker yang berpengalaman pasti dapat membukanya, tetapi itu masih tetap lebih baik daripada tidak ada enkripsi sama sekali. Pastikan untuk men-set metode WEP authentication dengan “shared key” daripada “open system”. Untuk “open system”, dia tidak meng-encrypt data, tetapi hanya melakukan otentifikasi client. Ubah WEP key sesering mungkin, dan pakai 128-bit WEP dibandingkan dengan yang 40-bit.
2. Gunakan enkripsi yang kuat. Karena kelemahan kelemahan yang ada di WEP, maka dianjurkan untuk menggunakan Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) juga. Untuk memakai WPA, WAP harus men-supportnya. Sisi client juga harus dapat men-support WPA tsb. 3. Ganti default password administrator. Kebanyakan pabrik menggunakan password administrasi yang sama untuk semua WAP produk mereka. Default password tersebut umumnya sudah diketahui oleh para hacker, yang nantinya dapat menggunakannya untuk merubah setting di WAP anda. Hal pertama yang harus dilakukan dalam konfigurasi WAP adalah mengganti password default tsb. Gunakan paling tidak 8 karakter, kombinasi antara huruf dan angka, dan tidak menggunakan kata kata yang ada dalam kamus. 4. Matikan SSID Broadcasting. Service Set Identifier (SSID) adalah nama dari wireless network kita. Secara default, SSID dari WAP akan di broadcast. Hal ini akan membuat user mudah untuk menemukan network tsb, karena SSID akan muncul dalam daftar available networks yang ada pada wireless client. Jika SSID dimatikan, user harus mengetahui lebih dahulu SSID-nya agak dapat terkoneksi dengan network tsb. 5. Matikan WAP saat tidak dipakai. Cara yang satu ini kelihatannya sangat simpel, tetapi beberapa perusahaan atau individual melakukannya. Jika kita mempunyai user yang hanya terkoneksi pada saat saat tertentu saja, tidak ada alasan untuk menjalankan wireless network setiap saat dan menyediakan kesempatan bagi intruder untuk melaksanakan niat jahatnya. Kita dapat mematikan access point pada saat tidak dipakai. 6. Ubah default SSID. Pabrik menyediakan default SSID. Kegunaan dari mematikan broadcast SSID adalah untuk mencegah orang lain tahu nama dari network kita, tetapi jika masih memakai default SSID, tidak akan sulit untuk menerka SSID dari network kita. 7. Memakai MAC filtering. Kebanyakan WAP (bukan yang murah murah tentunya) akan memperbolehkan kita memakai filter media access control (MAC). Ini artinya kita dapat membuat “white list” dari computer computer yang boleh mengakses wireless network kita, berdasarkan dari MAC atau alamat fisik yang ada di network card masing masing pc. Koneksi dari MAC yang tidak ada dalam list akan ditolak. Metode ini tidak selamanya aman, karena masih mungkin bagi seorang hacker melakukan sniffing paket yang kita transmit via wireless network dan mendapatkan MAC address yang valid dari salah satu user, dan kemudian menggunakannya untuk melakukan spoof. Tetapi MAC filtering akan membuat kesulitan seorang intruder yang masih belum jago jago banget. 8. Mengisolasi wireless network dari LAN. Untuk memproteksi internal network kabel dari ancaman yang datang dari wireless network, perlu kiranya dibuat wireless DMZ atau perimeter network yang mengisolasi dari LAN. Artinya adalah memasang firewall antara wireless network dan LAN. Dan untuk wireless client yang membutuhkan akses ke internal network, dia haruslah melakukan otentifikasi dahulu dengan RAS server atau menggunakan VPN. Hal ini menyediakan extra layer untuk proteksi. 9. Mengontrol signal wireless 802.11b WAP memancarkan gelombang sampai dengan kira kira 300 feet. Tetapi jarak ini dapat ditambahkan dengan cara mengganti antenna dengan yang lebih bagus. Dengan memakai high gain antena, kita bisa mendapatkan jarak yang lebih jauh. Directional antenna akan memancarkan sinyal ke arah tertentu, dan pancarannya tidak melingkar seperti yang terjadi di antenna omnidirectional yang biasanya terdapat pada paket WAP setandard. Selain itu, dengan memilih antena yang sesuai, kita dapat mengontrol jarak sinyal dan arahnya untuk melindungi diri dari intruder. Sebagai tambahan, ada beberapa WAP yang bisa di setting kekuatan sinyal dan arahnya melalui config WAP tsb. 10. Memancarkan gelombang pada frequensi yang berbeda. Salah satu cara untuk bersembunyi dari hacker yang biasanya memakai teknologi 802.11b/g yang lebih populer adalah dengan memakai 802.11a. Karena 802.11a bekerja pada frekwensi yang berbeda (yaitu di frekwensi 5 GHz), NIC yang di desain untuk bekerja pada teknologi yang populer tidak akan dapat menangkap sinyal tsb.

There's a nice bitesize piece of research here for anyone who wants to impress their ENGA1 examiner this summer with an up to date reference. According to Lotte Henrichs, a Dutch researcher, verbal interaction with young children (3-6 year olds) can have a positive impact on their language skills, especially if they are approached as intelligent conversational partners. According to her research, if we talk to children in a way that is similar to the "academic discourse" they hear at nursery and school, their language development will be helped.
OK, this may or may not help you with your ENGA3 language change topic, but it's a great article nonetheless. In it, David Bamman writes about what the data Twitter produces tells us about language usage in the USA and some of the pros and pitfalls of analysing it. As he points out, while there's lots of information stored about each tweet and about each twitter user, some of it isn't easy to pin down:
The user-defined geographic information is noisy data: while "Boston, MA" can be automatically disambiguated relatively easily to a physical location on the earth (corresponding to coordinates 42.35843, -71.05977), others ("Springfield") are more difficult (there are many Springfields); others still are nearly impossible ("home of that boy Biggie," a reference to New York City quoted from Jay-Z's "Empire State of Mind"), and some ("in ur fridge eatin ur foodz") don't map to any space in physical reality. The sheer volume of data, however, gives us the flexibility to focus more on precision than on overall accuracy - we can throw away all tweets where we aren't over 99% sure of the physical location.
What I like about the article and the research connected to it is that instead of talking about the technology (Is it bad for our language? Is it destroying our ability to talk to each other?) it just gets on and uses it to find out interesting things about the language around us.

Again, here are some quick pointers gleaned from my marking experiences over the years about what to do and what not to do when answering essay questions on child language acquisition.
Do these:
Answer the question! This is an obvious point, but one which about 20-30% of students don't do. You have to think about what the question is actually asking you and write your first paragraph in response to the question itself. Don't launch into a generalised "Children make their first sounds straight after birth and move through three different stages..." when the question is asking you about grammar, interaction or imitation.
Make sure you use plenty of real examples of child language, either from your text book, your own research and experience, or from the data given to you in question 2a. Explain what the examples show and try to make sure you're linguistic in your approach (i.e. using technical terminology to describe the processes shown by your data).
Link in research and theory to your arguments, but don't just wheel out the old Chomsky versus Skinner battle at every opportunity. Examiners get very bored of seeing the same old arguments in the same old words. Try to think of a clear way of explaining the problems different theoretical positions have when accounting for how children acquire language.
Try to conceptualise your answer: think of the bigger picture. What is actually happening when children say things like "I runned" or "She falled over"? Yes, they're overgeneralising, but why?
Think about your structure and guide your reader. Try to use paragraphs and discourse markers to make your answer fluent and easy to follow.

1. Merubah Themes Windows XP
Secara Default windows hanya menyediakan dua buah theme yang dapat digunakan yaitu Luna dan Windows Classic. pada waktu pertama kali XP muncul tampilan Luna XP memang sangat menarik namun kini tampilan ini mulai membosankan, apalagi tampilan windows classic yang sudah menemani penggunawindows sejak win 95. Untuk merubah theme kita dapat mencarinya dengan melakukan googling dengan kata kunci “Themes for XP+download” atau bagi anda yang memiliki bandwithberlebih dapat mendownload nya melalui torrent (biasanya dibundel ratusan theme).Windows melakukan proteksi terhadap file nya sehingga tidak semua theme yang tersedia diiternet dapat diterapkan pada sistemnya untuk menghilangkan proteksi ini anda dapat melakukannya dengan mempatch file uxtheme.dll milik windows xp, patch ini dapat anda dapatkan dengan melakukan googling dengan kata kunci “Uxtheme+patcher”. Setelah melakukan patch komputer anda akan meminta memasukan CD windows XP untuk menggantikan file windows yang tidak asli (dipatch) hal ini biasanya terjadi karena windows menerapkan fungsi WFP (windows file Protection) klik cancel kemudian klik yes lakukan hal yang sama jika dialog tersebut muncul lagi.

Logon Screen merupakan tampilan yang muncul ketika kita login ke sistem windows biasanya berupa layar dengan tulisan welcome. Secara default XP hanya menyediakan satu buah Boot Screen dengan logo windows XP, untuk merubah tampilan boot screen dapat menggunakan software Boot Screen dengan software ini anda dapat menggunkan ratusan theme yang dapat di download melalui internet.

Untuk meraskan efek aero pada XP anda dapat menggunkan sofware Top Desk, satu hal yang disayangkan adalah software ini bersifat trial (30 Hari) .

6. Virtual Desktop
Pada desktop linux kita dapat menjumpai Virtual desktop yang dapat digunakan untuk menjalankan aplikasi secara banyak tanpa harus memenuhi jendela desktop kita, pada windows kita juga dapat merasakan Virtual Desktop dengan software Virtual Desktop Manager,Virtual Desktop Manager merupakan plugin tambahan (Power Toys) yang dapat didownload pada situs resmi microsoft secara gratis.
7. Tambahan
Tambahan di sini bisa berupa cursor theme atau object dock (seperti pada OS X). Untuk modifikasi besar-besaran dapat menggunkan windows XP yang telah dimodifikasi dan siap pakai seperti Vista Vortex.
